Preview: Gold Coast Knights v Young Roar

Young Roar head south in the NPL Queensland Men’s competition this Sunday for a Round 5 fixture against Gold Coast Knights at Croatian Sports Centre.

Our boys remain unbeaten following a commanding 6-0 win over Brisbane Strikers in Round 4 and are looking to continue their strong start to the season following a short Easter break.

The home side are also full of confidence with three wins from four matches and are looking to extend their winning streak after a 2-0 win against Capalaba.

Ahead of this weekend’s match, Young Roar Head Coach Chris Grossmann said he was pleased with the team’s strong start to the season but was also wary of the threat from the Knights.

“It’s been a good start to the season for us, we’ve had some really good challenges thrown our way,” Grossman said.

“This Sunday afternoon poses another challenge against the Knights who we’ve played in pre-season.

“We know what to expect from them. They’ve got some very good players with a lot of experience and we’ll need to be at our best on Sunday afternoon to pick up the three points.”

Despite the recent wet weather forcing a departure from the usual preparations, Grossman said the build-up to the game had still been positive.

“The boys are in good spirits and they’re eager to get back on the field this weekend,” he said.

“This week has been a challenging one – we’ve not been able to do as many sessions as we’d like to during the week – but the boys have been great, we had a productive week inside and the time we had outside has been good.”

Young Roar are yet to beat Gold Coast Knights at this level but Grossmann was confidently looking forward to the challenge of reversing past results.

“We’re expecting a really tough game as they’re one of the top teams in the league, which we’re looking to challenge this year, and what a better way to go into a game in the form we are in,” he said.

“We know the quality they possess, they’re a team which had a good start as well so we’re really looking forward to the challenge on Sunday afternoon.

“We’re hopeful that we can pick up maximum points because we haven’t done that in the past, and we’ll go there with a lot of confidence.”
